Le Clos des Boutes is located in Bellegarde, in the heart of the Costières de Nîmes appellation, in the far south of the Rhône Valley, between the Camargue and the Mediterranean Sea. This appellation holds a unique place in the wine-growing landscape of southern France: long administratively part of the Languedoc, it officially joined the Rhône Valley in 2004, while retaining an identity that draws from both regions.
The vineyard stretches across a vast, stony terrace formed by ancient alluvial deposits from the Rhône—soils of rounded pebbles resting on layers of red clay and sand, a geological structure that promotes excellent temperature regulation and allows the grapes to reach optimal ripeness while retaining freshness and balance. Vines have been cultivated on these lands since Roman times, when the city of Nemausus—now Nîmes—played a major strategic role in the region.
