Domaine Santa Duc is one of the leading names in the Rhône Valley, known for its wines from Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Habemus Papam 2022 is its Châteauneuf-du-Pape red cuvée, a blend from several plots within the appellation, combining great power with beautiful elegance.
Habemus Papam blends Grenache from old vines with Syrah, sourced from plots within the appellation, including La Font du Pape and Le Pradel. The soils are sandy-clay with rounded pebbles. The estate cultivates its vines using organic and biodynamic farming methods. The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted. The wine is aged for approximately 18 months in large oak casks, which refines it without masking the fruit.
The nose combines ripe red and black fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, with violet, spices, licorice, and garrigue. The palate is rich, silky, and deep, balanced between power and elegance, with fine tannins.
