A 2024 dry white wine from Alsace from Domaine Marcel Deiss, made from thirteen grape varieties planted, harvested, and pressed together. Lively and briny, it is produced using biodynamic methods. The latest vintage of the Complantation cuvée.
The Complantation is the signature wine of the Domaine Marcel Deiss in Bergheim, Alsace. Thirteen Alsatian grape varieties, including Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewürztraminer, are planted on the same plot, harvested, and pressed together. This time-honored practice reflects the estate’s philosophy: the wine expresses the terroir first, not the grape variety. The 2024 is a dry, lively, and briny white wine with pronounced fruit. It features notes of lemon, white flowers, pineapple, and yellow peach.
Mathieu Deiss now runs the estate, following in the footsteps of his father Jean-Michel, one of the pioneers of biodynamics in Alsace. For forty years, the estate has championed “terroir-driven” viticulture. The vines are cultivated using biodynamic methods.
The grapes come from plots around Bergheim, on clay-limestone soils, with young vines from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts.
La Complantation is best served at 10–12 °C. It can also age for several years in the cellar.
This dry white wine pairs well with fish, poultry, Asian cuisine, or a bold cheese.

A magnificent Riesling Vendanges tardives from the Marcel Deiss estate at full maturity: the sweetness of the wine is counterbalanced by the minerality of the riesling. The whole is sumptuous and very elegant. A great bottle to enjoy with pan-fried foie gras, for example.
