The Domaine de Vaccelli holds a special place in Corsica’s wine-growing landscape. Located in Cognocoli-Monticchi, halfway between Ajaccio and Propriano in the Taravu Valley, the estate was founded in 1960 by Roger Courrèges and passed on in 1974 to his son Alain, who taught himself the art of winemaking. The family began by uprooting the old vines that were already there and replacing them with grape varieties typical of Corsica and the Mediterranean.
Today, Gérard Courrèges produces the estate’s iconic Ajaccio wines—Unu, Vaccelli, and Granit—as well as a Vin de France wine, Juste Ciel. The 25- to 28-hectare vineyard is planted on hillsides with granite-rich sandy soil, a unique terroir that gives the estate’s wines their instantly recognizable island identity—where the maquis, wind, and light come into their own. *La Revue du Vin de France* highlights the estate’s commitment to organic farming since 2008—certified since 2019—and its place among the elite of Corsican viticulture.
“Unu,” the estate’s accessible line, makes no concessions when it comes to identity: it offers structure, depth, and a refined bouquet—a wine more complex than it appears at first glance.
