Chioso Novo Red 2023 — "clos nouveau" in Corsican — is Domaine Vaccelli’s newest and most exclusive cuvée, made from old Black Grenache vines dating back to 1964 that were grafted onto Sciaccarellu rootstock in 2019.
The color is a vivid ruby. The nose is delicate, with red currant and small red berries, along with floral and spicy notes. The palate reveals magnificent tension and a subtle, well-integrated sweetness; the finish is long and briny. Decant for 45 minutes; serve at 16 °C.
Sciaccarellu from old Grenache vines planted in 1964, grafted in 2019, certified organic in 2019, grown on the granitic soils of Cognocoli-Monticchi. Aged exclusively in wine globes, with natural volcanic sulfur; very low sulfur content.
Cellaring potential: 2025–2033.
Chioso Novo red is the newest addition to Domaine Vaccelli’s single-vineyard lineup — a cuvée born from the union of a historic terroir and a bold winemaking decision. In 2019, Gérard Courrèges decided to graft a mass selection of Sciaccarellu onto the old Black Grenache vines planted in 1964 by his grandfather — the sixty-year-old roots of these Grenache vines now serve as the foundation for the expression of the appellation’s iconic grape variety, Ajaccio.
Domaine Vaccelli, founded in Cognocoli-Monticchi in the Taravu Valley, has been certified organic since 2019 under the stewardship of Gérard Courrèges, the third generation of the family. The range of single-vineyard red wines—Vaccelli, Granit, Chioso Novo, Quartz, Granit 174—now represents one of the most fascinating expressions of Sciaccarellu grown on granitic sandy soils. RVF Guide 2-star rating: “one of Corsica’s best estates.”
Chioso Novo is aged exclusively in “wine globes”—spherical containers that promote uniform micro-oxygenation and preserve the purity of the fruit. Very low in sulfites, using only natural volcanic sulfur.
The 2023 vintage reveals red currant, delicate red berries, floral and spicy notes, a taut and powdery palate, and a long, briny finish.
Decant for 45 minutes; serve at 16 °C. Food pairings: pigeon, quail, kid, line-caught fish. Aging potential: 2025–2033.
