About

Granit 174 Rouge is Domaine Vaccelli’s nearly legendary cuvée—born from a chance discovery in 2012, when Gérard Courrèges realized that a specific micro-zone within the Granit plot produced grapes of singular complexity and ripeness. He demarcated the rows: exactly 0.174 hectares, which give the cuvée its name. Production is less than 300 bottles per year.

Domaine Vaccelli, founded in 1962 by Roger Courrèges in Cognocoli-Monticchi in the Taravu Valley, is now run by Gérard—the third generation—on 25 hectares of granitic sandy soil. Certified organic since 2019, using indigenous yeasts selected directly from the vineyards, with infusion vinification to produce delicate tannins, and separation of free-run juice and press juice upon devatting.

The blend combines three extremely rare native Corsican grape varieties: carcaghjolu neru (40%), minustellu (40%), and sciaccarellu (20%). Aging lasts 29 months in 600-liter demi-muids—an exceptionally long period that builds complexity and texture without ever obscuring the granite-driven minerality of the terroir.

The 2023 vintage reveals red fruits, blood orange, spices, and flowers, with a full-bodied and elegant palate featuring fine, silky tannins and a long, mineral finish.

Decant and serve at 16 °C. Food pairings: pigeon, kid, quail, line-caught fish. Aging potential: 2025–2031.
