The Bien Luné is the flagship wine and the heart of the Domaine Terre des Chardons. Vintage after vintage, this is the wine that best encapsulates Jérôme Chardon’s philosophy: a lively, expressive red that’s immediately delicious, crafted for enjoyment and the dining table—“a wine with character,” as he likes to say.
Blending and Viticulture
Le Bien Luné 2024 is a blend of 60% Grenache and 35% Syrah, with a small amount of Cinsault rounding out the cuvée. The two grape varieties are vinified separately—fermented for 15 to 20 days—then blended and aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. This short aging period is designed to preserve the fruit and natural freshness of the grapes.
The vines grow on rounded pebbles set in red clay in Bellegarde, at the eastern edge of the Costières plateau, just outside the Camargue. Under the influence of the Mistral wind, the grapes are naturally aerated and concentrated. The entire vineyard has been managed using Demeter-certified biodynamic methods since 2002—hand-harvested, homeopathic treatments, native yeasts, and no oenological additives.
Tasting Notes
Color: intense, luminous ruby red.
Nose: vibrant red fruits—blackcurrant, cherry, raspberry—with a hint of violet and a subtle smoky note characteristic of the estate.
Palate: supple, juicy, and very easy to drink. The tannins are remarkably refined and velvety. The finish is fresh and mouth-watering, with a lingering aroma of red fruits and sweet spices.
Style: fresh, easy to drink, immediately pleasing—much like the great Syrahs from the northern Rhône Valley, whose elegance and tension Terre des Chardons shares.
Serving and Pairings
Serve between 15 and 17°C, slightly chilled in summer. The Bien Luné 2024 is perfect to drink now and through 2028.
Food and wine pairings: grilled meats and white meats, pizza, light Mediterranean dishes, high-quality charcuterie, mild cheeses. Equally at home as an aperitif or with a simple, convivial meal.
Domaine Terre des Chardons
In 1999, Jérôme Chardon took over the 30 hectares of the family estate—the Mas Sainte-Marie des Costières in Bellegarde—which had previously been devoted to vegetable farming and fruit growing. He immediately planted 9 hectares of vines with Syrah, Grenache, and Clairette, and committed the estate to biodynamic farming from the very beginning. A coherent and rare mixed-crop system: vines, olive trees, and vegetables, all cultivated according to the same principles of respect for living things. All crops have been grown organically since 1987 and certified Demeter biodynamic since 2002.
