The Domaine de Reuilly Joseph de Maistre is one of the historic estates of the Reuilly appellation, nestled in the heart of the Berry region, about 50 kilometers west of Bourges. A lesser-known appellation in the Centre-Loire region, Reuilly remains unfairly overshadowed by its neighbor Sancerre, even though it produces wines of remarkable precision—mineral-driven Sauvignon Blancs and elegant Pinot Noirs—on its clay-limestone and flint terroirs, often offering unbeatable value for the price.
The Reuilly Terroir
The Reuilly appellation stretches along both banks of the Arnon and Théols rivers, on varied soils where white clay, flint, and sand alternate. It is the plots on clay with flint that give the Sauvignon wines their mineral character and distinctive tension, reminiscent of the great white wines of Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé. The continental climate of the Berry region—hot summers, cool fall, and harsh winters—promotes slow and complete ripening of the grapes, preserving their natural acidity, which gives the wines structure that endures over time.
The estate’s organic wines
The estate is managed under certified organic farming, with a focus on expressing the terroirs and the purity of the grape varieties. Two vintages are available at Ardoneo:
The Reuilly Blanc 2024 — 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fresh citrus, white flowers, mineral tension. Peak in 2028. A fresh and precise expression of the Berry terroir. Perfect with goat cheese, shellfish, and fish.
The Reuilly Rouge 2024 — 100% Pinot Noir, fresh cherry, red berries, silky tannins. Peak in 2028. An elegant and easy-drinking Loire Pinot Noir, best served slightly chilled. Perfect with poultry, soft cheeses, and fine charcuterie.
