Domaine Lieubeau Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Château-Thébaud 2022 is a dry white wine made from Melon de Bourgogne grapes, sourced from a select plot of organically farmed vines approximately 70 years old growing on gneiss soil. After a very long aging on the lees in underground tanks, it offers notes of smokiness, citrus, fennel, and anise, with lovely freshness and a long finish. A communal Muscadet vintage suitable for aging and pairing with fine dining.
The Château-Thébaud 2022 is one of the village wines from Domaine Lieubeau, located in Château-Thébaud, south of Nantes. Made from 100% Melon de Bourgogne, it comes from a plot-selection of vines that are approximately 70 years old, with limited yields, rooted in gneiss. The estate is cultivated using organic farming methods.
After harvest, the wine is aged for several years on its lees in underground tanks, with regular stirring. This exceptional aging process for a Muscadet gives it a creamy texture, spicy notes, and deep minerality.
The Château-Thébaud 2022 stands out for its notes of smoke, citrus, fennel, and anise. It combines freshness with a lingering finish, featuring a taut and deep body. It can be enjoyed now, but it will benefit from being cellared for a few years.
Serve it with lobster, fish in beurre blanc sauce, scallops, or confit lamb shoulder. It also pairs well with aged cheeses.
Château-Thébaud, Clisson and Goulaine are the estate’s three municipal appellations. Each reflects its soil: the gneiss of Château-Thébaud yields a taut, deep wine; the granite of Clisson, a smoky, briny wine; and the serpentinite of Goulaine, a round, generous wine. For a simpler, fresher cuvée, try the Bel Abord 2024.
