Superb length!The Domaine des Schistes lies at the crossroads of the terroirs of the Agly valley, in the communes of Estagel, Tautavel and Maury. The first vinification at Domaine des Schistes dates back to 1989, and now the vineyard covers 55 Ha.As its name suggests, the estate is planted mainly on schistose marls. The land lies on the last terraces raised by the emergence of the Corbières limestone massif, and is mainly on slopes. The Domaine des Schistes has chosen to respect and express its terroir by turning to organic farming. The wines are good value for money, both reds and whites. The wine is quite expressive with notes of black fruit and zan. The palate is smooth, well-balanced and quite complex: spices (pepper) mingle with black fruits (blackberry). Good length. Good value for money.

CloseEssencial Rouge 2024 is the heart of the Domaine des Schistes — "the very essence of the estate," a blend from the schist-covered hillsides planted with local grape varieties amidst the garrigue of Tautavel.
Deep garnet color. Expressive nose with intense red fruit notes, such as blackcurrant, and spices. Smooth on the palate, with volume and liveliness, a savory tannic structure, and a persistent, savory finish. Serve between 14 and 17 °C.
Lladoner pelut, Carignan, Grenache Noir, and a touch of Cinsault; Ecocert organic since 2010. Schist-rich marl, south-facing slopes, Tautavel commune, heart of the garrigue, early ripening. Destemmed harvest, 10-day maceration with light daily wetting, racking to air after malolactic fermentation, aged in cement tanks, no racking or sulfiting before bottling.
Best enjoyed 2024–2029.
