A Beaujolais Nouveau from a single-vineyard producer, priced as an en primeur: that’s what makes Robert Perroud’s wine so appealing. Behind this festive wine lies the expertise of a specialist in the great terroirs of Brouilly.
Domaine Robert Perroud
The Perroud family has been in the wine business since the French Revolution. Robert Perroud settled in Odenas in 1990, south of Mont Brouilly, where he cultivates about fifteen hectares of Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly. He helped found Terroirs Originels, a collective of artisan winemakers from the Beaujolais Coast and the Mâconnais region. Committed to biodiversity, he and his brother have planted certified organic vineyards in southern Beaujolais. [If the wine is AB-certified, specify it here.]
Terroir
The Brouilly hillsides rest on pink granite and volcanic soils. Some slopes exceed 40%, such as the famous Balloquets hillside, nicknamed “Hell” by the harvesters. This work on the hillsides, often done by hand, shapes the precision of the estate’s wines.
Grape Varieties and Winemaking
100% Gamay from old vines, hand-harvested in whole clusters. Robert Perroud vinifies his primeur with the same rigor as his crus, to preserve vibrant fruit while giving it body.
