"Retour à la Terre" by Guillemot-Michel is a superb Viré-Clessé—rich, full-bodied, and long-lasting, with great intensity!
Back to the Land at Domaine Guillemot-Michel is a recent cuvée created in 2017; it comes from old vines on the “Champ-Rond” plot, vinified in 800-liter terracotta jars. The 2020 vintage, sunny and rich, unfolds with notes of exotic fruits typical of the estate, with an added richness due to the “breathing” of the lamphore. This cuvée is produced in limited quantities; the yields are very low.Domaine Guillemot-Michel is a small family-run estate located in “Quintaine,” between the villages of Viré and Clessé, at the heart of the Viré-Clessé appellation, one of the three crus of the Mâconnais. The vineyards were converted to organic farming in 1985, then to biodynamic farming starting in 1991. Since 2012, their daughter Sophie—now assisted by her husband Gautier—has been following in their footsteps, gradually taking over the management of the estate. Sophie, Gautier, Pierrette, and Marc cultivate 6.5 hectares of old Chardonnay vines (55–6 years old) located around the hamlet of Quintaine. The wines of the Guillemot-Michel estate are complex, elegant, and superbly defined: true haute couture Burgundy!
