Illico Red 2025, the approachable red from Roussillon
Illico is the “pleasure” cuvée from Domaine des Schistes, located in Estagel at the foot of the Pyrenees. The estate’s history dates back to 1906, and its first wines were produced in 1989. This red from the new harvest is designed to be enjoyed right away, with its focus on fruit and suppleness—hence its name.
Cinsault, Marselan, and Carignan on schist
The blend consists of 40% Cinsault, 32% Marselan, and 28% Carignan. The vines grow on schist soils around Estagel and Tautavel, which impart freshness and minerality. The wine is aged in concrete tanks, without oak, to preserve the purity of the fruit. Classified as an IGP des Côtes Catalanes, it is an approachable Roussillon red with supple tannins.
Tasting Notes
The nose is fruity, with notes of red berries and spices. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and supple, with acidity that adds vibrancy. Serve it slightly chilled, around 14 to 16 °C. Estimated peak in 2028.
