Coumeille is a single-vineyard selection from Domaine des Schistes, at the foot of the Pyrenees, between Estagel, Tautavel, and Maury. The estate is farmed organically. This cuvée is composed almost entirely of Syrah, planted on brown schist—a poor soil that limits yields and concentrates the grapes.
Coumeille is classified as a Côtes du Roussillon Villages, the region’s highest appellation. The aging process is meticulous, designed to complement the fruit without masking it. Its peak is estimated to be in 2032: this is a wine to open in a few years to appreciate its depth, or to decant right away.
This Syrah from schist soils pairs well with grilled red meats, leg of lamb, meats in sauce, spicy Mediterranean dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve it between 16 and 18 °C.
