About

Clos des Rocs Monopole 2023, organic Pouilly-Loché from old Chardonnay vines

The Domaine du Clos des Rocs is located in Loché, in the southern Mâconnais region, in Burgundy. Olivier Giroux cultivates his vines there using organic farming methods and champions the Pouilly-Loché appellation. Le Monopole 2023 comes from the vineyard that gives the estate its name, a “monopole”: a plot owned entirely by a single owner.

The Wine

Le Monopole is a 100% Chardonnay, made from vines over 80 years old, planted on limestone soil. The estate practices organic viticulture, using native yeasts and minimal intervention. This vineyard produces a wine that is deeper and more opulent than the entry-level cuvées.

Tasting Notes

The nose evokes pear, with notes of dried fruit. The palate is round and ripe, supported by pronounced minerality and balanced acidity. The finish is long.

Serving and Food Pairings

Decant it before serving, slightly chilled. It pairs well with seafood, fish in sauce, cream-based poultry dishes, and hard cheeses. It can also age for a few years in the cellar.
