L'Éclat 2025 is Clos du Calvaire's Côtes du Rhône cuvée - the one to discover the spirit and style of the estate. Founded in 1923 by Marie Louise and Alphonse Mayard in Sorgues, Clos du Calvaire is now run by the fifth generation - Françoise Roumieux née Mayard and her children Nicolas and Coline - on 30 hectares of vines cultivated with certified organic farming and agroecology. The same principles that guide the great Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvées apply to l'Éclat: respect for living organisms, tillage of the soil, gentle pruning, sowing of plant cover, grazing, lunar calendar, manual harvesting in 20 kg crates, gravity-fed vatting without pumps, indigenous yeasts exclusively.
L'Éclat comes from parcels classified as AOP Côtes du Rhône, located on the outskirts of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation on the Sorgues terroirs - rolled pebbles, sands and clays characteristic of this sector of the southern Rhône. The same emblematic grape varieties as in the Châteauneuf cuvées - Grenache predominantly, Syrah - express here a more accessible and immediate profile, designed for conviviality and everyday pleasure.
The estate's stated objective for this cuvée is clear: "to produce cuvées reflecting the authenticity of the grape varieties and the excellence of the Côtes du Rhône appellation, between tradition and respect for nature." L'Éclat is a direct continuation of this philosophy - a wine for pleasure that makes no compromises on growing practices and winemaking, simply in a lighter, more direct register than the estate's great parcel-based cuvées.
The 2025 reveals notes of fresh, jammy red fruit, rose petals, garrigue and a light spicy touch. The palate is supple, full-bodied and well-balanced, with fine, mellow tannins and a fresh, easy-to-digest finish. An organic Côtes du Rhône with character, to drink now with grilled meats, charcuterie or a cheese platter.
Serve between 15 and 17°C, open 30 minutes beforehand. Pairings: charcuterie, grilled meats, pizza, pasta, Mediterranean dishes, mild cheeses. Drink within 3 years.
