A plot-based cuvee from the Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin, La Viallière reveals an elegant, airy Côte-Rôtie, marked by the finesse of Syrah, floral notes and great precision.
Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin Côte-Rôtie La Viallière is an emblematic plot-based cuvée from the estate, offering a particularly elegant and nuanced interpretation of Syrah on Côte-Rôtie terroirs. Located in the southern part of the appellation, this parcel gives rise to wines of great finesse, where balance takes precedence over power.
The nose opens with a delicate, complex aromatic expression, marked by notes of red fruit, raspberry and cherry, accompanied by violet, sweet spices and a slightly smoky touch.
On the palate, the wine stands out for its silky texture and elegance. The tannins are fine, perfectly integrated, and the structure is more airy than on other cuvees from the estate. The finish is long and precise, highlighting the freshness and purity of the fruit.
This cuvée thus offers a more subtle and refined reading of Côte-Rôtie, favoring elegance and drinkability.
La Viallière is located on steep slopes with schist and micaschist soils, in the southern part of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. This area is renowned for producing wines that are more supple and approachable in their youth, yet retain a beautiful complexity.
The exposure and nature of the soils favor optimal Syrah ripeness, while preserving freshness, resulting in balanced, expressive wines.
Vinification is conducted with precision, with gentle extraction to preserve the finesse of the tannins and the aromatic expression of the fruit.
Maturing in oak barrels is controlled, bringing structure and complexity without dominating the wine. This work results in an elegant, readable and perfectly balanced Côte-Rôtie.
Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin is renowned for its parcel-by-parcel reading of Côte-Rôtie, highlighting the specificities of each terroir.
With La Viallière, the estate offers a cuvée distinguished by its finesse and accessibility, complementing more powerful wines like Les Grandes Places. This diversity makes it possible to explore the full richness of the appellation.
This Côte-Rôtie will go perfectly with poultry, white meats, duck breast or even delicate dishes.
Its finesse also allows for more subtle pairings, where the wine's elegance comes to sublimate the dishes without dominating them.
Accessible more quickly than some more structured cuvées, La Viallière will nevertheless evolve over 8 to 15 years.
Over time, it will develop more complex aromas of undergrowth, spices and evolved fruit, gaining depth while retaining its elegance.
