Domaine Jean Fournier - Marsannay - Clos du Roy

The Marsannay Clos du Roy from the Domaine Jean Fournier is one of the estate's emblematic cuvées and perfectly illustrates the potential of Marsannay's great terroirs. From a historic climat located on the appellation's best slopes, this wine expresses a deep, structured and elegant reading of pinot noir, on a par with the finest references of the Côte de Nuits septentrionale.
-
The Clos du Roy climat rests on particularly high-quality clay-limestone soils, benefiting from a favorable exposure that allows optimal ripening of the grapes. This terroir gives the wine assertive structure, marked aromatic depth and a remarkable capacity for ageing, making this cuvée one of the most sought-after in the appellation.
-
Conducted under certified organic farming, the vineyard is worked with great precision, respecting the life of the soil and the natural balance of the vines. Yields are strictly controlled and the grapes are harvested by hand to preserve the quality of the grapes and the identity of the climate.
-
In the cellar, vinification is carried out with rigor and moderation. Extractions are progressive and controlled to preserve the finesse of Pinot Noir while revealing the structure of the terroir. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and ageing in oak barrels is precise and perfectly integrated, accompanying the wine without masking its personality.
-
On tasting, Marsannay Clos du Roy reveals a complex, intense nose, blending ripe red and black fruits, spicy notes and slightly mineral touches. The palate is full-bodied, structured and deep, supported by fine, elegant tannins. The finish is long, persistent and well-balanced, revealing the full ageing potential of this cuvée.
-
This wine is aimed at enlightened wine-lovers and gourmets alike, and is an ideal accompaniment to red meats, stewed dishes, game or mature cheeses. It can be enjoyed after aeration in its youth, but fully expresses itself after a few years of cellaring.
