In 1992, Jacky Blot founded his estate in Montlouis-sur-Loire, convinced that these clay-limestone slopes between the Loire and Cher rivers could produce great dry Chenin wines, far from the image of simple wines that their reputation at the time suggested. He was right—the New York Times took note, as did the leading wine guides. Since his passing in May 2023, his son Jean-Philippe Blot has taken the reins alone, supported by the estate’s loyal technical team, upholding the same high standards across 45 hectares of old Chenin vines.
Remus takes its name from the legend of Rome—the twin brother of Romulus. This cuvée comes from the second harvest in the estate’s oldest vineyards—between 50 and 80 years old—on clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils. Yield of only 20 hl/ha. Slow fermentation with native yeasts, without chaptalization, in oak barrels; aged for one year (1/3 new barrels, 1/3 one-wine barrels, 1/3 two-wine barrels), without the addition of yeast or chaptalization.
The 2025 vintage, still young, reveals notes of pear, lime, quince, and verbena; a creamy yet taut palate; and a salty, lingering finish—a Chenin to cell from 2027 to 2037.
Serve at 11–12 °C; decant. Food pairings: seafood, fish in sauce, asparagus, poultry. Aging potential: 2027–2037.
