"It's known as the 'wine of the sands.' 5 hectares planted 800 meters from the ocean—it’s a unique vineyard, a gem nestled between the ocean and the forest, just a stone’s throw from downtown." — Domaine de la Pointe.
Les Pieds dans le Sable is a cuvée that tells a story dating back seven centuries. In the 14th century, the fishermen of Capbreton planted vines for a very specific purpose: to hold back the shifting dunes that threatened to submerge their homes. This innovative approach quickly became part of the heritage of the town and the Landes coast—a wine-growing region renowned for over 600 years for its great originality. But this historic vineyard gradually disappeared and lay abandoned for nearly a century, until 1995, when it was entirely replanted with the original grape varieties: Chenin, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, Domaine de la Pointe carries on this unique tradition on the last remaining vines of this historic vineyard.
The uniqueness of the Les Pieds dans le Sable cuvée lies in its hybrid terroir: it combines two radically different types of sand. To the east, the Sables Fauves—clay-loam deposits on gently sloping hillsides, rich in iron oxide, well known in Armagnac as the preferred terroir of Bas-Armagnac, which bring remarkable minerality and freshness. To the west, the Sables de l’Océan—the pure coastal terroir of Capbreton, which fully expresses the uniqueness of the Landes soil facing the Atlantic. This unique blend of two types of sand gives the rosé freshness, savory notes, and delicate fruitiness.
The vineyard spans 5 hectares planted just 800 meters from the ocean—a fragile dune ecosystem, regulated by the winds and sea spray, which gives the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon a unique freshness and aromatic finesse, impossible to replicate on a classic continental terroir.
The 2025 has a light color with coral highlights, luminous and delicate. The nose is expressive, marked by citrus notes—grapefruit in particular—and a tangy touch reminiscent of English candies that brings a sense of indulgence and freshness. The palate echoes this same tension between peach and grapefruit, with a fresh, full-bodied floral finish of rose that pleasantly lingers on the palate. A rosé with character, far from southern standards, that fully expresses the estate’s Atlantic identity.
