Les Hauts de Husseau is without doubt Domaine de la Taille aux Loups' most distinctive cuvée. Heir to the former Remus Plus cuvée, it takes its name from the highest slopes of Montlouis-sur-Loire, where the chenin blanc vines - the oldest on the estate, with an average age of over 50 years - are planted on clay-silica soils with flint on limestone parent rock, facing due south on steep slopes. This particularly cool, stony terroir imposes slow ripening, favoring an intense mineral expression and natural tension that few Loire chenins achieve.
The 2024 vintage continues the trajectory traced by Jacky Blot and passed on to his son Jean-Philippe, who now runs the estate with the same parcel-based rigor: gentle pneumatic pressing, careful settling, slow fermentation, fruit-friendly ageing. The result is a dry white of great precision - a nose of citrus, white flowers and yellow-fleshed fruit, underlined by a saline minerality characteristic of Montlouis soils. The palate is straight and vertical, carried by a sharp acidity that structures the wine without hardening it, with a long, saline, slightly chalky finish. Coup de cœur Bettane+Desseauve, recommended consumption 2025-2039.
To be decanted for an hour when young. Serve between 10 and 12°C with fine oysters from claires, pan-fried scallops, noble fish with beurre blanc sauce, mature goat's cheeses from the Loire Valley - Selles-sur-Cher, Crottin de Chavignol, Sainte-Maure de Touraine.
